135 blog posts on What American History Is About... and counting!

I cannot believe the blog is well into the second year. As of this morning, this post will be the 136th published on What American History Is About. I need to say "thank you" - loud and clear.

I love history and the fact that this blog has been drawing organic traffic as well as subscribers and social media followers fills my heart.

So what's the point of this post?

I woke up around 4am with a bit of an a-ha moment (a theme if you have been around a bit). There are a few posts that put this blog into context. But also- there are so many links and rabbit holes.

Disclaimer: As a blogger, I use affiliate links sometimes! I may receive commission from purchases I share, but it does not change your price but sometimes you might get a discount.

How the links work and what you'll find in them.

I use a lot of links. So here are the basics about links in this blog.

3 ways the links work:

  1. They'll be embedded into sentences. For example, clicking on James Madison (which should be highlighted) will take you to a blog post about him.
  2. They'll be listed as "related," to content at the end of a paragraph or topic within the article.
  3. Photos may be clickable! You'll especially see this if it's a graphic sharing an event registration or something you can purchase like my History Unboxed link below.

NOTE: they'll ALWAYS open into a new tab so your reading will not be interrupted, ready to view when you finish the blog post.

What you'll find when you click links:

  • related content on this blog (other articles that might be of interest)
  • related content or deeper dives on other websites (for example, biographical information, descriptions of events, historical data, full texts for anything I share an excerpt from and so forth)
  • affiliate links to products you can purchase (such as History Unboxed, the Explore Here app, the History List, books I recommend like this one etc.)

Closing words from history.

As we head into 2025, I thought I'd drop the words of Abigail Adams about joy and looking forward to the future. Thinking right, meaning well... and using history as a guide of course! Click here for the full letter.

Abigail Adams to John Adams, 1 January 1797

Abigail Adams to John Adams

Quincy Jan’y 1 1797

“O Blindness to the future kindly given

That each may fill the circle mark’d by Heaven[”]1

The new year opens upon us with new Scenes of Life before us. what are to be the trials the troubles and vexations of it, are wisely with held from our view.

The universal cause

Acts not by partial, but by Gen’ral laws

who sees and follows that great Scheme the best

Best knows the blessing, and will most be blest2

To him who sits Supreem let us commit the hour the Day the Year, and fearless view the whole. there needs but thinking right, and meaning well, and may this ensure to you, the Souls calm sun shine, and the Heart felt Joy.

There is a huge practical disclaimer to the content on this blog, which is my way of sharing my excitement and basically journaling online.

1) I am not a historian nor an expert. I will let you know I’m relaying the information as I understand and interpret it. The employees of Colonial Williamsburg base their presentations, work, and responses on historical documents and mainly primary sources.

2) I will update for accuracy as history is constant learning. If you have a question about accuracy, please ask me! I will get the answer from the best source I can find.
